Inside the Miss Earth Australia 2024 Pageant: Highlights, Winners, and Special Performances

As the representative of StarCentral Magazine, I had the privilege of attending the Miss Earth Australia 2024 coronation night, and it’s an event I won’t soon forget. Held at the Bryan Brown Theatre, the night was filled with glamour, excitement, and a strong message of environmental advocacy.

I started the evening by going behind the scenes, where I interviewed the talented finalists: Jessica Lane, Claudia Kuper, Jackie Marin, Cleo Kanyarat Panprakhon, Fatima Rodriguez, Isabella Rositano, Emilia Scott-Hopkins, Katelyn Storey, Keisha Ann Nicole Tungol, Sarah Tute, and Sofia Valdez. Each of these remarkable women had their own unique story and passion for making a difference in the world. I also took the opportunity to speak with some of the event’s sponsors, like Indira Setia Putri of Lari Active and Jan Herdman, gaining insight into the support that makes this event possible.

The pageant was divided into four segments, each designed to highlight different facets of the contestants’ beauty, intelligence, and environmental awareness. The Swimwear round, sponsored by Budgy Smuggler, set the tone for the evening, showcasing the finalists’ confidence and poise. The Evening Gown round followed, with each contestant dazzling in their chosen attire, embodying elegance and grace.

One of the most impactful segments of the night was the environmental hashtag round. Here, each finalist selected a hashtag and explained its ecological significance, using the platform to raise awareness about important environmental issues. It was clear that these women were not just beauty queens but also passionate advocates for the planet.

The night reached its peak with the question and answer round for the top four finalists. I could feel the tension and excitement in the air as the contestants were put to the test, demonstrating their intelligence and quick thinking.

As the special awards were announced, I felt a sense of pride knowing that StarCentral’s choice was Jessica Lane, a standout contestant who also took home several other awards, including Best in Swimwear, Best in Social Media, Miss Photogenic, and Miss Earth Charity. Keisha Ann Nicole Tungol was another big winner, receiving Megaworld’s Choice, Best in Evening Gown, and People’s Choice. Claudia Kuper was awarded Miss Congeniality, while Katelyn Storey was named Best in Talent. Alicia Rositano was the Budgy Smuggler Choice, rounding out an impressive list of accolades.

Finally, the top four winners were announced, each receiving a coveted title. Sarah Tute was crowned Miss Earth Australia Water 2024, Claudia Kuper took home the title of Miss Earth Australia Fire 2024, and Keisha Ann Nicole Tungol was named Miss Earth Australia Air 2024. The moment everyone had been waiting for arrived when Jessica Lane was crowned Miss Earth Australia 2024, a well-deserved victory after an evening of outstanding performances.

The success of the Miss Earth Australia 2024 pageant was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team, including National Director Juliet De Leon, Managing Director Marc Baylon, and pageant coach Susanna Downes. As I reflect on the evening, I can’t help but admire the incredible efforts of the media team led by Bob Reyes and StarCentral’s very own photographer, Dave Choo, who captured every memorable moment of this remarkable event.

This night was more than just a pageant; it was a celebration of beauty, intelligence, and a commitment to making the world a better place. And as I left the theatre, I knew I had witnessed something truly special.

Cultural Fusion on the Catwalk: Hoa’s “PROSPERITY” Collection Stuns Audience in New South Wales

I recently had the pleasure of attending a mesmerizing fashion showcase, thanks to an invitation from George Bastolli, the CEO of Royalle Modelling Agency. The event was part of the Cultural Exchange Program introducing Vietnam tourism – Ho Chi Minh City, and it was organized by the Department of Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City. Held at Parramatta Town Hall in New South Wales, Australia, it promised an evening filled with style, culture, and charm.

The star of the show was the “PROSPERITY” collection, created by the talented designer Tran Phuong Hoa, the visionary behind Eleven S Couture. With 15 breathtaking Áo dài designs, Hoa skillfully blended traditional Vietnamese materials to create stunning pieces of art. Adding to the allure were the graceful presence of Miss World Australia – Sarah Marschke, Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 Ngoc Chau, Miss COSMO Vietnam 2023 Xuan Hanh, and the professional models from Royalle Modelling.

The collection itself was a celebration of the vibrant flora found in both Vietnam and Australia, symbolizing the beautiful fusion of cultures and natural beauty. Tran Phuong Hoa’s dedication to preserving Vietnamese heritage through her designs was palpable throughout the evening, leaving a lasting impression on everyone present.

Spanning across May 13 and May 14, the event served as a platform to promote Vietnamese tourism products and services while showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Ho Chi Minh City. Guests were treated to a delightful blend of fashion, beauty, and the tantalizing flavors of Vietnam.

Exclusive: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at ABS-CBN’s Noontime Hit Show Showtime!

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2024, I, alongside Mike Ilagan, StarCentral Magazine’s Managing Director, was honored to be invited to ABS-CBN’s renowned noontime show, ‘It’s Showtime.’ Our delightful hosts for the day were none other than Mr. Raymund Romero, ABS-CBN Global Regional Marketing Head for Asia Pacific, and Ms. Yeddah Joy Maballo, Marketing Manager at ABS-CBN Global Ltd.

Our adventure into the heart of ABS-CBN’s entertainment realm commenced at the Audience Entrance on Eugenio Lopez Drive, where the amiable Yedda greeted us. Despite the presence of Miss Laguna 2024 contestants, the stringent security measures at the gate underscored the importance of the production. Interestingly, even the contestants’ charm and beauty couldn’t sway the vigilant security personnel.

After passing through the rigorous security checks, we finally stepped onto the premises, guided by Yedda to rendezvous with Raymund. I was pleasantly surprised by Raymund’s demeanor; despite his high-profile position, he emanated humility and approachability. Having traveled to Australia for various events, he shared insights on event organization, stressing the necessity of a systematic approach. Raymund’s memorable advice included the art of engaging the audience, likening it to a form of ‘foreplay,’ leading to an eagerly awaited ‘climax’ – the hallmark of a successful event.

Raymund’s humility shone through his willingness to be hands-on, motivating and aiding everyone rather than assuming a supervisory role. His desire for acknowledgment wasn’t about placing himself on a pedestal but instead being rewarded through hard work and dedication, showcasing a rare combination of knowledge and humility.

Our gracious hosts treated us to lunch at the ABS-CBN cafeteria, providing us with a glimpse into the inner workings of the ABS-CBN compound before embarking on a tour of the ‘It’s Showtime’ set. The live show, featuring beloved hosts like Vice Ganda, Vhong Navarro, and Karylle, was a delightful spectacle.

As luck would have it, our visit coincided with a Valentine’s Day special featuring the talented Morissette. The show, both on TV and live, was a comedic delight, with Vice Ganda’s humor resonating with the audience. Special segments like “Karaokids” and “EXpecially For You” showcased the hosts’ versatility, eliciting laughter and tugging at heartstrings alike.

In conclusion, our experience at ‘It’s Showtime’ was truly unforgettable, thanks to the warm hospitality extended by Mr. Raymund Romero and Ms. Yeddah Joy Maballo. We eagerly anticipate future collaborations with them, confident that such partnerships will continue to yield unforgettable moments in the entertainment industry.

One of the highlights of the evening was the crowning of the new Mrs. Universe Official queens. The regal ceremony added an extra layer of prestige to the celebration, honoring remarkable women who have made a significant impact.

Melodic Magic: Janie Kogan’s Alluring Performance

The air was filled with enchantment as Janie Kogan took the stage, serenading the audience with the timeless melody of “All I Want for Christmas Is You.” Her performance added a touch of magic, infusing the night with festive cheer.

Masterful Hosting: Jojo Almazora Sebastian Takes the Lead

Guiding us through the night with charisma and flair was the super MC, Jojo Almazora Sebastian. His energy and engaging presence kept the audience enthralled, ensuring that the night flowed seamlessly.

Collaborative Brilliance: TV6 Network, Global Elite Media Group, and GEM Models

The success of this event was also a testament to the power of collaboration. Partnering with TV6 Network, Global Elite Media Group, and GEM Models brought together a constellation of talents and influencers, enhancing the overall experience.

Runway Royalty: Sydney’s Best Dressed Models Shine

The runway came alive with Sydney’s Best Dressed Models, a showcase that added a glamorous touch to the celebration. From the effortlessly chic to the boldly avant-garde, the models showcased the diverse fashion landscape of Sydney.

Honouring Excellence: StarCentral’s People of the Year Awards

Adding a layer of distinction to the celebration was StarCentral Magazine’s People of the Year Awards. Proudly sponsored by Mark Coronel of Cubecorp, Genevieve Macabenta of PW Mortgage Partners, Merven Virueda of Parramatta Community College, Nelma Capitao of Philippine Airlines, and Fresh Face Skin, these awards recognized outstanding individuals who have left an indelible mark on the year. Michael Downs, Sue Turner, Riley Aston-Kampioti, and Mark Coronel were among the celebrated honorees.

Liam Neeson’s ‘Retribution’: A Thrilling Race Against Time and Terror

“Retribution,” starring the ever-credible Liam Neeson, promises a tense hostage drama that unfolds within the confines of a car, leaving audiences gripping the edges of their seats. The storyline of “Retribution” revolves around Matt Turner (Liam Neeson), a dedicated bank executive who finds himself more engrossed in his work than his family. The façade of familial normalcy shatters when Matt receives an anonymous call on the rare occasion he decides to take his children to school. The chilling message reveals that a bomb has been planted beneath each car seat, poised to detonate should anyone dare to leave their seats. Matt is thrust into a harrowing situation as the enigmatic caller forces him to obey their every command. The film’s premise bears a striking resemblance to the 1994 classic “Speed,” starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, though it trades in the high-speed thrills for a more claustrophobic setting. The film bears the title “Retribution,” but the burning question that lingers is: where is the retribution?

Liam Neeson, a stalwart of the action thriller genre, delivers yet another formidable performance as the lead character, Matt Turner. Neeson effortlessly embodies the role, exuding the perfect blend of age, appearance, and personality that the character demands. However, it is Neeson’s undeniable charisma that truly breathes life into Matt, making his plight all the more believable. While Matt may lack the infamous “particular set of skills” associated with Neeson’s previous roles, the actor’s sheer presence carries the film, rendering it eminently watchable.

The supporting cast, including Embeth Davidtz as Matt’s wife, Lilly Aspell as the daughter, and Jack Champion as the rebellious son, deliver competent performances that serve the narrative well. The true enigma of the film lies in its unseen antagonist, a voice shrouded in mystery. Throughout the movie, the audience remains in suspense, questioning whether Neeson’s character is the hero or the villain, a clever choice that keeps viewers guessing.

“Retribution” excels in crafting an action-packed hostage drama that maintains relentless tension within the confines of a car. The film’s pacing is commendable, clocking in at a concise runtime. While the script could be better, a bit more expansion of the storyline could have added depth to the narrative. The screenplay is bolstered by a noteworthy background score, Flavio Labiano’s deft camerawork, and Steven Mirkovich’s sharp editing.

Set in Germany but spoken in English, the absence of subtitles for the German-speaking portions may leave some viewers desiring additional context. The character of the Interpol female police boss introduces a peculiar dynamic, as she possesses crucial case-solving information yet refuses to lend an ear to Matt’s pleas for assistance. Another recurring problem in the film is the pervasive refusal to listen to anything Matt says. Matt pleads, “Please, just listen,” or variations of this phrase numerous times. Yet, it becomes abundantly clear that his pleas fall on deaf ears, met with an inexplicable resistance to comprehension.

“Retribution” may not reinvent the action crime thriller genre but offers a riveting and compact cinematic experience. The film’s masterful twist with the revelation of the antagonist and its impressive, true-to-life explosions are visual highlights. While a few narrative gaps exist, the film’s editing and brisk pacing maintain non-stop suspense. For fans of Liam Neeson, “Retribution” is a must-watch journey that showcases the actor’s enduring prowess, even if it doesn’t break new ground. The film’s tight 90-minute runtime ensures a brisk and electrifying ride that leaves no room for dull moments, making it a solid addition to Neeson’s action-packed filmography.
